Valley Claim Tips Page

Working your way through an insurance claim in the Rio Grande Valley? We've helped many policyholders throughout the Valley with all kinds of claims and have put together this list of tips to help you navigate the process:

  • Get organized – We know you may have a lot to handle right now, but organizing your insurance papers is crucial. Get a binder or a folder box specifically for your insurance claim. Keep all of your papers neatly organized and readily accessible. Include a pad of paper and a pen or pencil so that you can take notes whenever you're speaking with an insurance representative, adjuster, contractor, or other party.
  • Take pictures – Take pictures throughout the process, documenting everything related to the claim. For example, having pictures of damaged items before they're disposed of can be the difference between being compensated for them and having them be denied. Pictures can also be used to document weather conditions, the presence of witnesses, and other important details.
  • Be thorough – Rushing through paperwork, failing to answer questions completely (or at all), and submitting illegible claims forms are all potential causes for delays. Give the insurance company the information it needs in order to process your claim in a timely manner.
  • Be proactive – Unless you have a public adjuster working on your behalf, it's going to be up to you to make sure that all of your losses are properly claimed and documented. It's also up to you to stick up for yourself if you believe that you're claim is not going as planned or that estimates are too low.

While many policyholders blame insurance companies for "giving them runaround," much of the responsibility for a smooth insurance claim lies squarely on your shoulders. These claim help tips should put you in a better position for a successful claim.
